Planned Expansion Advances our Mission to Make Life Better for Residents

For more than 80 years, eliseo™ (previously named Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community) has given generations of seniors opportunities to continue growing meaningfully in their retirement.

Now, we’re taking the opportunity to grow meaningfully as well.

In 2020, our senior living community shared detailed plans for a significant expansion that will add 91 new independent living residences to our 28-acre campus. This expansion will offer new options to serve current residents and allow us to appeal to future generations of active older adults in innovative ways that both complement and enhance their senior living experience.

This expansion will join recently completed additions of other common spaces to our community, all thoughtfully designed to attract those specifically looking for an active senior living environment. Those additions include:

  • The Chihuly Family Arts Center offering state of the art ceramics, painting, woodworking and craft space
  • The Edwards Family Plaza and Arneklev Gardens including an expansive greenhouse
  • The Emerson Wellness and Clark Aquatic Center, complete with window-lined class space and a heated, indoor saltwater pool

These are ideal new additions to a campus already teeming with services — a maintenance-free lifestyle, housekeeping, transportation — and amenities, including chef-prepared meals, a robust health and wellness program, and a calendar full of social, physical, intellectual and spiritual activities.

Our exciting expansion project represents much more than the addition of 91 stunning new living spaces. It’s the embodiment of eliseo’s ongoing commitment to helping residents live happier and healthier, for longer.

DETAILS OF OUR EXCITING EXPANSION

eliseo is one of Pierce County’s largest Life Plan Communities. With this expansion, our goal is to continue in the footsteps of Puget Sound’s most vibrant Life Plan Community, too.

The expansion will include a new three-story apartment building, which will house 50 apartments in an assortment of sizes and floor plans, from one-bedroom, one bathroom to two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments. Some will feature dens or Juliette balconies; all will boast attractive finishes and fully equipped modern kitchens.

This apartment building will offer residents direct inside access to the newly renovated dining room and salon/spa area which will also be included as part of the expansion. The building will be directly adjacent to a new outside garden space for residents to plant vegetables or flowers, or just relax and take in nature’s verdant scenery.

Another two buildings will feature 41 additional Villa Residences in the five- and six-story buildings. Villa Residences tend to be very energy-efficient, modern and can be built with little to no construction waste. Both of these buildings will offer tuck-under parking at the ground levels.

All three new buildings will be nestled into our thriving campus, putting you close to all our recently added common spaces. Our community’s location in the West End keeps you connected to everything you’ve always appreciated about the Tacoma area.

You’ll be just blocks from the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and minutes from the vibrant Ruston Way Waterfront, 6th Avenue and Proctor Districts. In the neighborhood you’ll find markets and restaurants, small boutiques and big-box stores. The Tacoma Mall is less than a 15-minute drive away and you’re also 30 miles from Sea-Tac International Airport. Mt. Rainier presides majestically in the southeast skyline, luring people to get outside and find adventure wherever it leads.

NEVER STOP GROWING IN RETIREMENT

So with a vibrant community and the perfect location, what might your average day living here look like? First, there may be no “average” day again if you don’t want one. That’s because you’ll have so many options, every new day can be completely different from the ones before and after it.

You may decide to wake up early for a breakfast on-the-go so you can make it to your painting class. Or, you’d rather sleep in, enjoy a cup of coffee and read the day’s headlines on your tablet before meeting friends for a late brunch.

You could then sit in on a Book Club or head to the aquatic center for a water aerobics class in the heated saltwater pool. Or instead, you buy a birthday card in the gift shop for your neighbor’s surprise birthday party in the private dining room later — you’ve arranged everything with our staff and the chef’s planning a special dish to celebrate the occasion.

The point is, the days are all yours to do just as you wish.

And here are two things your days won’t be occupied by: worries and responsibilities. As we mentioned earlier, eliseo offers you complete maintenance-free living, inside and outside your private independent living residence. You also won’t have to worry about high utility bills, nor will you have to pay annual property taxes or property insurance (that’s our responsibility, too).

Something else we must mention is that when you have security, you can let go of worry. Because our senior living community is what’s known as a Life Plan Community, you’ll have the peace of mind of knowing two things in particular:

  • You have control of your monthly finances and your retirement nest egg, thanks to our refundable entrance fee and nearly all-inclusive monthly service fee.
  • If anything should happen to your or your partner’s health, you both have high-quality Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, Memory Care and Rehabilitation available to you, right on our campus. It’s literally as close as a walk from your independent living residence.

So if you move to our community, you and your family know you have the appropriate level of care, right here. You know that no one is going to be forced to make any care decisions in an emergency situation. Because you’ve already made a smart plan for the future by choosing to move to eliseo.
